With the upcoming holiday weekend, hopefully you are going to be able to have some time off work to spend with friends, family, or just have some alone time to recover in a busy season and to take care of your mental, physical, and spiritual self. Self-care is one of the biggest deficits that I see when working with my clients. When my clients find healthy self-care activities, I have seen a significant decrease in their symptoms of anxiety, depression, better quality of sleep, family relationships, decreased work burnout, and a more positive overall outlook on life. It is no secret that we live in a culture of “glorified busyness”, being constantly connected, and the extreme need to be productive, even if that means working past our limitations, ignoring our physical and mental health needs.
One of my favorite self-care activities right now is handlettering. I am not a “creative” by nature but have always loved to doodle and also believe in the power of words to speak into someone’s life. Whether that be a bible verse, quote from your favorite novel, or a line from a movie, I think words can lift a spirit, provide focus and encouragement, or just bring a laugh or a smile. I have really found this activity to be very therapeutic for me and a way to “turn off the busyness” of my brain after sitting in front of the computer, seeing clients, or just in a space where I need to key down. The 10 winners of this giveaway will win one of the 10 prints below. I can’t wait to hear about your favorite self-care activities in the comments below! If you don’t already have a good habit of self-care, I hope you can get some ideas from the other comments and start to practice these habits daily 🙂 A post on self-care will be coming in the next few weeks to give more options of what self-care might look like for you. Have a Happy 4th of July!
